From the Kickstarter page...

The 6th Annual KC Game Fair brings the best tabletop games back to Kansas City! RPG's, designer board games, miniatures and much more!

When and where is it?

KC Game Fair 2014 is being held November 20-23, 2014 at the Hilton Kansas City Airport in Kansas City, Missouri. For location details and event listings see the KC Game Fair website at kcgamefair.com

What is it?

The KC Game Fair is an annual game convention bringing a number of long standing KC area game conventions under one roof. The Role-Players Guild of Kansas City(Shauncon), Heart of America Historical Miniatures Gaming Society (Borderwars), and Blockhead bring you RPGs, historical miniatures, board games, living and other organized play, regional game clubs, game designers, dealers, benefit events, a gamers’ garage sale and more!

ShaunCon, Borderwars, and Blockhead

This will be our 6th Fair and the 4th at the Hilton Kansas City Airport. Last year was a very successful year, and we're hoping to continue the momentum of building a great event right here in Kansas City!

Why a Kickstarter?

Last year, we were able to successfully raise half of our budget using Kickstarter. This year, our cost is $6001.85 to rent the ballrooms and tables for the games. By allowing our guests to effectively pre-pay for their access through Kickstarter, we avoid having any one person or organization stuck making a deposit months in advance and having to wait until the week of the event to get paid back.

Our costs are now as follows:

    • Initial $520.00 deposit paid May 29, 2014
    • An additional $2740.93 is due October 1, 2014
    • An additional $2740.92 is due November 13, 2014

Our goal this year is to raise at least $2500 towards the deposit and first payment. Anything above that will be applied to the balance until all costs have been met. Full admission options to the Fair are based upon the Kickstarter level pledged. This effectively allows us to bring in some pre-registration revenue and let people contribute what they can to help us keep it going. Last year we were successful in using Kickstarter to fund approximately 50% of costs with the rest being covered by regular admission. We're looking to do the very same thing for 2014!

Discounts

Contribute to the Kickstarter if you want to help pre-fund the event, don’t care about GM or volunteer discounts, or want one of the great special rewards available only to backers. Normal pre-registration, available after the Kickstarter is over, will allow GMs and volunteers interested in discounts to sign up with their normal discounts. See the Pricing page for discount details.

To be clear: With Kickstarter, there are no GM or volunteer discounts, but there are reward perks.

Tim Keltner remembers RPGKC member Sam Adams, who passed away Wedesday, August 6, 2014. Sam was a long-time Guild member and member of the Coterie of the Pale Heart, and other vampire related games. Share your memories of Sam at Tim's original post on Facebook with more photos and user commentary. Memorial information is being made available at the Sam Adams Memorial Facebook group.

Sam Adams"All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players: they have their exits and their entrances…"

Yesterday was Sam's 56th Birthday and it appears that he passed away at his computer while playing a video game. This is a fitting exit, as Sam was a prolific gamer (a horrendous understatement) and it was as a member of the RPGKC that I first met Sam - playing a Malkavian in White Wolf's LAVRPG. Sam's Character was Boris Baddinov and the accent was perfect as was his acting. Sam had an infinite capacity for joy and we hit it off immediately. Have you ever met someone who could make you laugh and who you could make laugh so hard you both cried? Sam and I traveled to conventions together and played our characters all the way there and all the way back in the car, at the gas stations, in the rest stops and restaurants - we never stopped. If anyone had been with us they would have gone insane. When Anne Rice came to KC, around 20 of us dressed up in our Vampire costumes and worked security for the event at the Manor Barn in KCMO. Anne signed 1600 copies of her book "Servant of the Bones" sitting on her throne, dressed as the Queen of the Damned. Sam and I approached the event coordinator at 1 am to see if we could just say hello to Anne. Anne told her to bring the whole group up and spent another two hours visiting with us and signing our books. (NOTE: It was widely publicized that Anne would ONLY sign "Servant of the Bones" to keep the lines down. But Sam and I are "Fans" and that means we are prepared. When they told us we could see Anne, Sam and I, never having talked about it beforehand, each went to our respective cars and pulled out the hardback copies of other Anne Rice titles we had stowed there "just in case." THAT is how I know Sam was - is - in my Karass). The pic of Anne, Sam and I is one I will always cherish. I had not talked to Sam for quite some time when we found each other on Facebook at the end of March this year. We picked up right where we left off, never missing a beat. We discovered that I worked in Riverside, where he lived. We had planned to meet next week at the Corner Cafe for biscuits and gravy. How I wish that meeting were still on. Sam, I love you. You were one of a kind, one of the great characters of my life and we will never see your like again. Rest in peace. Take a bow my friend. Curtain down.

We are pleased to announce that new Guild officers were elected at the July 12th business meeting. Your 2014-2015 Guild officers are:

New Officers

Beth PerrinBeth Perrin, Guildmaster (President)

Beth is a new face in the Kansas City gaming community, coming to us from Carbondale, Illinois with her husband, Ryan Perrin. In the past year Beth has proven a resourceful and energetic member of the Guild, helping run events at Game Days, volunteering at conventions, organizing our Free RPG Day efforts, and providing valuable input at business meetings. We look forward to her leadership in the coming year. Beth succeeds long-time Guildmaster Doug Howard, Official Weezle and Inquisitor D, who will be missed. As Guildmaster Emeritus, Doug pledges to remain active and help guide the new officers in their duties, not unlike a Jedi Master returning from the beyond to council his former Padawans. Beth can be reached at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Also, its ok if you call her Guildmistress!

Ryan PerrinRyan Perrin, Overlord (Games Coordinator)

Ryan is another new face that has helped bring new energy to the Guild. With a passion for indie RPGs, Ryan regularly exposes guildmembers to new and fresh ideas in the world of role-playing games. If you haven't heard of Lady Blackbird, Mythender, Psy Run, or Monsterhearts, then you haven't been coming to monthly Game Days in the last year. Classic and well-regarded RPGs are all well and good, and a staple, but Ryan pledges to continue pushing the Guild's envelope and expanding its comfort zone with new and exciting finds. Don't miss them at monthly Game Days! Ryan can be reached at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

TsunamiCon 2014

KC Geeks and Gamers Meetup GroupToday we are pleased to announce the beginning of a six-month trial sponsorship of the KC Geeks and Gamers Meetup.com group. Founded by Doreen Mundy, the KCGG is a large Meetup group comprised of just our kind of folk... geeks and gamers in the Kansas City area. The group's nearly 900 members host a number of events each month that Guild members are sure to be interested in, and provide another great pool of potential gamers for the Guild. We encourage all Guild members to join the KCGG meetup group and see what its all about.

» Join the KCGG Meetup Group

The KCGG group recently converted to a fee-based membership, and so members would have to pay to remain in the Meetup group. However, for the next six months the Guild will sponsor their Meetup group, allowing KCGG members to remain in the group at no cost. Our two groups will share information on events and cross-post between our sites. Hopefully some KCGG folks will see the value of joining the RPGKC, and become full members of the Guild, eligible for discounts at area conventions and voting rights at Guild business meetings. Likewise, hopefully some Guild folks will see the value in joining the KCGG meetup group, with their meetup scheduling system, email list and discussion forum. We'll evaluate the effectivness of this outreach at the end of the six-month trial period.

Let's work together to support and encourage gaming in Kansas City and the surrounding area!
